The dojo is located across the street from the Ballston Metro Station (Orange Line), in the Youth Building of the Central United Methodist Church.
Parking Information
Under normal circumstances, parking at the dojo itself is limited. There is no parking on Wednesday nights. We do not have a formal parking agreement with Central United Methodist Church (CUMC); but, unless otherwise notified, dojo members and visitors may park in the church parking, except for the first five spaces on the right when entering the lot and spaces marked for CUMC.
People should park as close to the dojo entrance as possible, which is the end of the parking lot furthest from the entrance. Under no circumstances should anyone park in spaces designated for church personnel, such as the pastor, or the first five spaces on the right when entering the lot.
If parking on the street in a metered space, please check the meter for the hours of enforcement and feed the meters accordingly. (Most of the parking meters in the area of the dojo are enforced from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday, excluding holidays.) Arlington County does enforce these meters.

Driving from Aikido Shobukan Dojo ("Takoma") to Aikido of Northern Virginia
- Start out going West (towards 5TH ST NW) on BUTTERNUT ST NW.
- At the first traffic light, turn SLIGHT LEFT onto PINEY BRANCH RD NW.
- PINEY BRANCH RD NW becomes 13TH ST NW. Cross intersection with Military Road/Missouri Avenue.
- At the next light, turn SLIGHT RIGHT onto COLORADO AVE NW.
- COLORADO AVE. NW runs into 14TH ST. NW. Turn LEFT onto 14TH ST. NW.
- After less than 1 block, turn SLIGHT RIGHT onto COLORADO AVE NW.
- At the next light, turn SLIGHT LEFT onto 16TH ST NW.
- Make the FIRST RIGHT onto BLAGDEN AVENUE NW.
- At the end of BLAGDEN AVE. (almost a mile) turn LEFT onto BEACH DRIVE.
- At 0.7 miles, BEACH DRIVE divides. KEEP LEFT to stay on BEACH DRIVE.
- Pass the National Zoo on the right, go through a tunnel, then pass under a high bridge.
- At the stop sign, turn LEFT onto ROCK CREEK PARKWAY.
- Stay in the left lane. At the first traffic light (after almost 2 miles), turn LEFT into the LEFT LANE of VIRGINIA AVENUE NW. There is a sign pointing toward US Route 66 WEST.
- IMMEDIATELY turn slight LEFT through a break in the traffic island onto I Street NW.
- Go through a traffic light, and follow signs to US Route 66 WEST. Stay in the right-middle lane.
- Go over Roosevelt Bridge, and follow signs to US Route 66 WEST. Stay in the left or middle lanes.
- Take EXIT 71, GLEBE ROAD.
- At the end of the exit ramp, turn LEFT onto GLEBE ROAD.
- At the first traffic light, turn LEFT onto WASHINGTON BLVD.
- At the first traffic light, turn RIGHT onto N. STAFFORD STREET.
- Central United Methodist Church is on the RIGHT. Please park as far in the rear of the parking lot as possible. If less than 10 spaces remain, please use street parking.
Taking Metro from Aikido Shobukan Dojo ("Takoma") to Aikido of Northern Virginia
The ROUND-TRIP fare, on a weekend, is $4.20.
- Take the RED LINE in the direction of Grosvenor/Shady Grove to METRO CENTER.
- Change to the ORANGE LINE in the direction of VIENNA.
- Exit at BALLSTON. The Central United Methodist Church is across the street from the BALLSTON street escalator.
- ESTIMATED TRAVEL TIME is 45 minutes. (Metro's "official" estimate is 35 minutes --- see the Takoma Park Station page. Due to the longer time between trains on the weekend, we've added ten minutes to that estimate.)
